Our Local 1900’s Photographer George Knott lived at Flint Cottage Water End and was a Valet and Photographer and sold postcards from his house, Warrengate Road then being a main route for the hay & manure traffic between Barnet & St. Albans.
His photographs are very professional and are only limited by the equipment he had image a heavy brass & mahogany camera, 12 glass plates 8 x 6 inches in size a wooden tripod and all on his bike, the bike features in some of his photos almost like a trade, mark.

Images of North Mymms is a project started by Mike Allen & Phil Elgar in 2011, both of whom have lived in Welham Green for many years, to find & digitise as many of the old images of North Mymms as possible, before they are lost for ever as many have been. To date there are over 2500 images all catalogued by reference no, description, date and the person who gifted the image.
Not all the images are old as history was yesterday and we are constantly looking to add to the collection for the benefit of the community, 2 DVD’s have been produced each with a 1000 images on, they are availble from Mike Allen on 01707 268553 @ £10.00 each, the profits from these sales are used to fund the many images we produce for local shows and exhibitions.
We can provide a lecture service to local organisations, contact us for further details, we have our own digital projector and screen and do not always charge a fee, although a contribution to our costs are always welcome.
The following images are all from those collected with the help of local residents, can you add some more, please get in touch.
